The Park District is in the process of renovating the flooring at Birchwood Recreation Center, view the plan HERE.

The new flooring will be installed throughout most of the facility, except for the gymnasium, locker rooms, and dance room located on the lower level. This upgrade will improve the overall aesthetic of the center and offer a more durable surface for walking and activities.

The Park District is undertaking renovations to the 18th green at Palatine Hills to enhance the playability of the approach area and the overall surface of the green. The project involves relocating the sand trap to the west, positioning it along the southern edge of the green to help reduce the number of balls rolling into the creek. Additionally, the green will be reshaped and leveled to accommodate more pin placements on the green. The green will remain in its current location. Since the sand trap is situated within the floodplain, a permit from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) is required, which is anticipated to extend the permit approval process by approximately six to seven months. As a result, staff have decided to reschedule the construction phase of the project to August 2027 to better align with turf establishment schedules.

The paving projects scheduled for 2026 include Phase 2 of the Falcon Recreation Center pavement renovation and a segment of the Palatine Trail between the bridge at Ashwood Park and Smith Road. Phase 2 of the Falcon Recreation Center renovation will primarily focus on enhancing accessibility features around the facility, including the designated ADA parking areas. The Palatine Trail renovation will involve removing the existing asphalt and replacing it in the same location, except for a small section between Hawk Street and Smith Road (behind Saint Joseph Home). In this area, the trail will be relocated approximately 20 to 30 feet northward, away from the property boundaries.

The Park District is relocating all administrative functions from the Community Center to the new facility at 150 W. Wilson Street to increase programming space at the Community Center. This new facility was acquired through an Inter-Governmental Agreement with the Village of Palatine, which is projected to save taxpayers millions of dollars over the next five to six years. Both agencies required expanded facilities to better serve the public.
